Just few things for posterity:
* It has been a hot few weeks, and yesterday I commented on how hot it was outside. Reid replied with, "It's not the heat, Mommy. It's the her-midity." I asked him where he heard this (because I know it's not from me) and he said it was from the Wonder Pets. Ming-Ming, to be exact.
* On several occasions over the past few weeks, I have heard Reid either singing or humming Christmas tunes, usually Jingle Bells. He was really belting it out at Publix last week, and people were pretty amused. (I know some of you think I put him up to this, but I don't!) Then, on Monday at the library, Reid got to pick out two DVDs... he chose the Christmas Thomas the Train and the Christmas Wonder Pets. That just proves what I have believed for years - that the "Christmas spirit" is indeed genetic. It might skip a generation now and then, but it's there. My mom has it, I have it, and now Reid has it, too. I'm so glad I have someone to listen to Christmas music with when October rolls around!

Rain, Rain, Rain!
We have gotten a LOT of rain lately, and Reid could not be happier! I ran out to the store for a quick trip one evening and when I got back I found Reid in the front yard with his rain coat and boots on, and no pants. Ah, fun times with Dad... :) We had a great time playing in the puddles!

Easter in Alabama
We made the trek to Ardmore for Easter weekend. We could not leave until after Ross got off work so we decided to stay the night in Chattanooga rather than drive all the way through and be exhausted. It sounded like such a good idea at the time... but we probably won't do that again. We stayed at an Econo Lodge - which I realize is not the fanciest of places - but this one just did NOT cut it. If we didn't have Reid to worry about, I feel certain that I would have gotten up and just driven the rest of the way in the middle of the night, instead of listening to the squeaky bed springs. There were a host of other non-fun things about it but there's no sense in rehashing it now. :)
I should also note that somehow Bunny did not make the trip with us. We did not even notice until we pulled into the hotel. It wasn't nearly as traumatic as it could have been - thank goodness! I don't think I could have taken it on top of all the other things.
We woke up early Friday morning to lots of rain. After a quick bite we headed out. After all, I had a hair appointment to get to. (Hey, if you knew how much cheaper I can get it done there vs. here, you'd understand.) I dropped the boys off at mom's and headed to Athens for the appointment. The whole time I was there, tornado warnings were going off for all over north Alabama. Aaah. That's how
you know you're home.
I got out and back just in time. Within an hour, we were under our own warning and got to have what Reid referred to as "the best snowstorm ever," a.k.a. marble-sized hail. Welcome to April in Alabama! Nothing at our place was damaged but we did get enough accumulation for a mini-snowball fight. That night I had dinner with some of my oldest friends, all from high school.
Saturday was low-key. Ross and Doug played golf while Reid, mom, and I shopped and hung out together. It was Ross' first time golfing in a least 6 months - but he still beat Doug. He is nice and doesn't rub it in too much (that I know of).
Easter dinner was not until 1:30 Sunday, so we spent the morning watching Reid play with the goodies form his Easter basket. I personally think the Easter Bunny outdid himself this year- I was loving the Easter bucket, which coincidentally matches Reid's bedroom. That Easter Bunny sure is thoughtful about tho
se kinds of things. :)
We had a wonderful afternoon at Granny and Papa's. Lots of food, fishing, and, of course, egg hunting. For me, the best part was watching Reid and his cousin Peyton - who is 4 months younger - play together all day long. This is the first time they have been together for any length of time since they are both old enough to really play together and enjoy each other on their own. It was just so cute.
Of course, we were back in the car bright and early Monday morning headed back to South Carolina. But it was a great weekend!
(Here are some pics from Easter day. I'd love to give you some captions but the formatting on here is totally freaking out tonight. You'll have to figure them all out for yourself.)

Working at the Car Wash... Car Wash, Yeah.
When the weather was nice a few weeks ago, I had the bright idea to wash my car by hand. Actually, it wasn't so bad, and I knew Reid would be excited to help. So, I prepared myself to be soaked and we went to it.
Reid was in charge of washing to soap off the car. He did a pretty good job with the areas he was tall enough for. Of course, there were some mishaps - like me getting sprayed directly in the face at point blank range just as a neighbor was walking by. Reid also decided that his tricycle needed to get washed. Hey, why not?

Last Week of "Summer"...
Okay, so it's still really summer and will be for several weeks. It's pretty warm outside still, though not unbearable the past few days thanks to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Fay in Florida. We are getting lots of wind, which is SO nice. Yesterday the windows were open all day and Ross will be installing a screen door on the back of the house this weekend in preparation for the cooler months. I hope they come soon - there's nothing like sweating while trick-or-treating to let you know you're in the South. :)
Speaking of that wind, it has been wreaking havoc on what's left of my tiny little garden. I have already pulled the squash plants up but my tomatoes are still kicking and are really out of control. The wind is blowing over the tomato plants, cage and all. Of course, the fact that they are taller than me when they are upright is not making things any better. We also have a watermelon plant with two melons on it. One melon is about the size of Reid's head and should be ready to eat soon. The other is a baby and fits in the palm of my hand. I doubt it will ripen before we have to pull the plants up, especially since Reid tries to pick it every time we go outside. He loves that baby watermelon. I'm thinking about planting a blueberry bush in the fall - we'll see if I can stick with that plan.
We visited Reid's school yesterday for Open House. Regular school here started back this week so his program begins again next week. He is moving into an older classroom so we got to go visit today. There were no problems, and I didn't think there would be. He already knows both his teachers and at least half of his classmates. We found out that he is the only boy on one of the days he is there - Reid and seven girls. Should make for some interesting playtimes, though several of them can take him in a wrestling match on any given day. The new classroom has a jack-and-jill bathroom between his room and the other Older 2's class. It has the cutest little toddler-sized toilet. Fingers crossed that this sparks our interest in the potty again. They also get to sit at a little semi-circle table for art projects and lunch this year, instead of the high chairs that contained them last year. I can't wait to see how that goes. His favorite teacher, Mrs. Lorin (who was also his teacher in the previous classroom), said she was so happy to be done with high chairs. I'm wondering if she will still feel that way in a few weeks when they realize they can get up and down from the table at will. Sometimes containment is good. :)
We are looking forward to a weekend of good weather and our ever-growing, never-ending list of home improvement projects. Well, I'm looking forward to it - Ross is probably not!
P.S.: I have a few pics that go with this post but, frankly, I am too lazy today to upload them. Maybe tomorrow. :)
